For fifteen years, Brian Dies has been advising law firms and their clients on complex, and often contentious, strategic and financial issues. Mr. Dies is a Principal with Hoffman Alvary and has been with the Firm since it was founded in 1996.

Mr. Dies has both academic and practical training in finance, economics and accounting. His experience includes a wide variety of business analysis for professional service firms in addition to analysis in both the private and public sectors. He has developed a particular expertise in building complex financial models and analyzing large data sets. 

Mr. Dies relies on his broad consulting experience to recognize and discern the strategic implications of the data analysis and business facts presented. He has experience presenting complex subject matter clearly and persuasively in front of both neutral and adversarial audiences. He has made in-depth financial and strategic presentations and also has experience preparing written reports both inside and outside the litigation context.

In his work with law firms, Mr. Dies has participated in a variety of Law Firm Consulting engagements including addressing partner compensation and retirement, strategic planning and growth, operational performance as well as governance and succession planning. Building on this robust experience in the law firm consulting practice, Mr. Dies has assisted law firms and their counsel in disputes with former partners and other entities. These Law Firm Disputes have included disputes related to partner compensation and capital, firm valuations, and other financial and managerial issues.

In his work on behalf of clients of major law firms, Mr. Dies has prepared expert reports and analyses primarily related to damages in commercial disputes. Mr. Dies has experience measuring claims for lost profits and unjust enrichment, and evaluating reasonable royalties and price erosion in patent and other infringement matters. He also has experience in analyzing and extracting information from large datasets including government reimbursement databases for pharmaceuticals, among others. His prior engagements have involved several industries including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and computer hardware and software.

Before joining Hoffman Alvary, Mr. Dies gained experience and developed his analytical skills as a consultant at Price Waterhouse in New York. Mr. Dies received a Masters in Finance from Boston College and majored in Economics and Government at Cornell University.
